Michael Joseph "Mike" "Joey" Mitchell, age 37, Asbury, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Joey was born May 30, 1977 in Joplin, and graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1996 where he earned a certificate for auto body repair from Franklin Tech. He also attended Missouri Southern State University, and received his degree from the Police Academy. He worked as an officer for Golden City for several years, and was currently working for Annie's (formerly Safeway Bakery) of Joplin.
Other than spending time with his family, especially his childrens' activities like Trinidy's Girl Scouts, or Hunter's Carl Junction High School Archery program, his real passion was being outdoors, either hunting or fishing. He was an avid deer hunter, and excelled with a bow.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Faye and Wilbert "Jr." Johnson, Edward Steele, and Ott Mitchell.
Survivors include his wife, Monica Steele Mitchell whom he married August 23, 1997; son, Hunter J. Mitchell; daughter, Trinidy S. Mitchell both of the home; his father, Michael F. Mitchell of Asbury; mother, Kristy Mitchell of Carl Junction; sister, Jessica Mitchell of Carl Junction; grandparents, Mary Mitchell, Bernice Steele, and Mae Smith all of Joplin; father-in-law, Mike Steele and wife Evelyn of Joplin; mother-in-law, Cindy Reed of Carl Junction; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Randy Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Carl Junction Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Carl Junction High School Archery Program.
They also ask that in honor of Joey, everyone that is comfortable doing so, is encouraged to where camo clothing to the service.
