Cletus Green

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Cletus Quinn Green was born August 1, 1931 to Clyde and Lucy Green. He entered into rest April 25, 2020, following a short illness.

He was a 1949 graduate of Miami High School, attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, and received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Harding University, Searcy, Arkansas. He later earned his Master’s Degree at the University of Arkansas.

Cletus married his High School sweetheart, Carolyn Miller, December 30, 1951. He and wife, Carolyn, raised three children, Steve, Becky and Kelly who adored him and were always proud to say they were his kids. They learned from their father how to communicate with others and the importance of being genuine. His strong Christian faith and willingness to always lend a helping hand as a longtime member of the Church of Christ made him a beloved member in various churches he attended across the nation. Most recently, he served as a deacon at Rocketdyne Church of Christ in Neosho, Missouri.

Cletus Green coached basketball for 50 years. During this time, he taught more than the game. He was instrumental in the lives of numerous young men and women in helping them achieve not only their athletic goals but assisting them in reaching their aspirations as adults. He was an innovator on the court and broke barriers off the court.

His love for people was evident in his willingness to always be ready to visit with anyone, anywhere, at any time. This is obvious by the numerous people who have sent their condolences and well wishes to his family after his passing.

He coached the game of basketball on the College and High School levels in Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas, North Carolina and Missouri, meeting many people along the way and touching many lives. Always proud to say he was born in Twitty, Texas, he is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 68 years, Carolyn; son, Steve Green and wife, Teresa, of Levelland, Texas; daughter, Becky, widow of Charlie Stockholm of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Kelly Green and wife, Ginger of Durant, Oklahoma, and six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. The family plans to have a memorial service to celebrate Cletus’ life at a later date in Neosho, Missouri. In lieu of flowers to honor Cletus, contributions may be made to the Rocketdyne Church of Christ, Neosho, Missouri, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.
