Velma Burdiss was born March 23, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Cashes Elmer and Lucinda Dorine (Beasley) Poore. She entered into rest on April 25, 2020 in Joplin, following a short illness at the age of 76.
Velma moved to the southwest Missouri area in the mid 1970's from Kansas City. She worked as a paraprofessional with disabled children for the Neosho Public Schools. She enjoyed doing embroidery, butterflies, light houses and bingo. Most of all, she was passionate about her students.
Velma married Cecil Burdiss, who preceded her in death on May 12, 2006.
She is survived by four children, Julie McCool of Granby and her children, Melissa (Brad) Bunnell and Hank McCool; Bill (Ginger) Burdiss of Cassville and their children, Billy (Christina) Burdiss, Shawn (Jamie) Burdiss, Bobby (April) Burdiss and Chris Burdiss; La Rhonda (Gerald) Gibson of Miami, Oklahoma and their children, Chasiday (TeeJay) McDade, Geoffery (Alicia) Gibson and Brandi (Ryan) Nunes and Angel Burdiss and her children, Felisha Kackley, Brian (Lori) Kackley and Andrew Kackley and 22 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Burdiss, grandson, Baby Kenneth Burdiss; her stepfather, Edward Eugene Kinnaird and four sisters, Joanne Snook, Cynthia Halstead, Linda Poore and Charlene Portwood-White.

Velma requested to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
