Joseph Andrew Sloniker, 97, Milo, MO was born May 29, 1922 in Arcadia, KS and departed this life on Monday, April 12, 2020 at the home of his son, Steve Sloniker.
Joseph was drafted into the United States Army October 22, 1942, where he fought in five Campaigns of World War II – Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland and Ardennes as a Radio Operator. He was awarded several medals including five Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.
After being Honorably Discharged from the Army, he worked as a carpenter and Construction Superintendent for Bennett Construction Company in Kansas City, MO for 53 years. Following his retirement, he farmed and raised cattle outside of Nevada, MO full time.
He is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann Schell (Carmen) of Rio Rancho, NM, and one son, Steve Sloniker (Denise) of Milo, MO; three sisters, Alberta Hefly of Knoxville, AR, Fern Ladesic of McCloud, KS and Lola Sloniker of Carthage, MO; seven grandchildren, Joe Sloniker (Vicki), Jared Sloniker (Amanda), and Jay Sloniker (Jessica), all of Milo, MO, Jim Wagner (Rhonda) of Helena, MT, John Wagner of Kansas City, MO, Jenny Klingler of Rio Rancho, NM, and Karen Goodloe of Higginsville, MO; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Sue Joyce, his parents, and several siblings.
Private graveside services with Military Honors will be held at Marvin Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Roger Beach officiating.
The family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
