Barbara Dobbins

Barbara Virginia Cornell Dobbins, age 80, of Joplin, MO, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020. She was born on July, 19, 1939, in Joplin to Olive Mae Marcus and Carol James LaVern Cornell. She resided in Joplin, MO, most of her life where she retired from Motorola.

Barbara was a woman with many talents. In her younger years she drew, painted and was known for writing beautiful poetry and was also a licensed beautician. She enjoyed reading, playing Bingo with her daughter, Dianne, and most recently loved going to the casino and playing penny slots.

If you knew Barbara then you were privileged to know one of the wisest women around who could easily give any contestant on Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy a run for their money.









Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Olive Mae Marcus Thompson; stepfather, Murry Edward Thompson; father, Carol James LaVern Cornell; brothers, James and Norman Cornell; sister Dorothy Street; and two daughters, Dianne Danley and Doreen Riley.

She is survived by her husband, Jonathan David Dobbins; daughter, Jamie Norman (Dave); daughter, Jere Hamilton; daughter, Debra Plummer (Wayne); son, Jonathan David Dobbins Jr. (Melanie). All of Joplin. Seven grandchildren, James, Mandy, Angela, Meagan, Kyle, Tyler, and Jayden; 10 greatgrandchildren, 1 greatgreat- granddaughter; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Barbara will truly be missed by her friends, family and all who knew her.

The family is planning a private memorial service at a later date.
