Alice Cooper

Alice Fay Cooper, age 85 of Columbus, Kansas passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Medicalodge in Columbus.

Alice was born February 25, 1938 in OshKosh, Nebraska, to Learl and Bertha (Sorgenfrei) Sutphen. She graduated high school in OshKosh. June 17, 1956 Alice married George Edward Cooper. They moved to Southeast Kansas in 1965. She was a housewife, bookkeeper, and worked at Cooper Electric and Smith Foods in Joplin. 








Alice was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, and enjoyed volunteering at the church’s thrift shop along with the UMW, the American Legion and V.F.W. Axillary, and The Girl Scouts of America.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George; her brother Warren Sutphen, and a son-in-law James Reed.








Surviving Alice are her children, Bruce Cooper (wife Vicki Jane) of Chanute, KS, Marleen Murray of Columbus, Joleen Reed of Columbus, and Michelle Crocker (husband William) of Carthage, MO; two sisters, Verlie Wagoner of Gering, Nebraska, and Nina Magnuson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; seven grandchildren; fifteen grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at The Columbus First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made payable to the church. Private burial will take place at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under direction of the Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus.
