Sheila Khan

(From Fohn Funeral Home)

Sheila (Sharin) Khan died following multiple medical challenges at The Blossoms at Eureka Springs at 6AM Sunday, March 24 in Eureka Springs AR at the age of 89.

Sheila was born on December 14th, 1934 in London, England to Samuel and Sarah Kamen. Sheila completed her A levels and subsequently married Enver Khan on March 4, 1952 in Glasgow, Scotland.

After settling in London the couple welcomed their twin boys Rahman and Daniyal into their home on October 12, 1953. The couple and their twins subsequently moved to Romford, England and soon after welcomed their son Daud Yusuf on February 18,1958.

Sheila and Enver emigrated to the United States in 1962 in hopes of providing greater opportunities to their children. They lived briefly in the Los Angeles, CA area then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and continued to raise their children there. Sheila along with Enver was very active in the Muslim community in San Francisco and Sacramento and Sheila was known for hosting and providing meals for many young Muslim students.

Following the tragic loss of their son Daniyal to leukemia at the age 20 in 1974, Enver was forced to accept an engineering position in the UAE. Sheila joined him soon after.

The couple spent several years in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran. While Enver worked on various job sites, Sheila took on the role of assisting the wives and families of the workers with housing and other ongoing needs. During holiday periods, Sheila and Enver traveled a great deal: Rome, Athens and Paris were among their favorite destinations. Sheila and Enver were evacuated from Iran during the overthrow of the shah in 1979 and Enver was transferred to an engineering position in Colorado.

Sheila and Enver enjoyed a brief peaceful period in Colorado - Sheila even learned to ski! - but decided to return to California to be closer to family.

Sheila and Enver’s years in Benicia CA were rich with the presence of nearby family and (many British) friends. Sheila became the hostess for all of the family birthday dinners and adored spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren. In addition, Sheila was very active with the Benicia chapter of the Eastern Star as Enver became active with the Benicia Masonic Lodge. The family attended many local parades and other community events.

Sheila and Enver moved to Kansas City, MO to be closer to their son Daud and his family in the year 2000. They spent several treasured months with them but unfortunately, Enver passed away shortly thereafter in November of 2001. Sheila remained, despite her younger son and his family moving away, and made numerous friends in the area. She became very active with numerous clubs - including the Daughters of the British Empire (D.B.E.) - and social gatherings and later welcomed her older son Ray’s move to the area with his wife Marcia.

Sheila’s children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren remember her as a deeply devoted and nurturing mother & grandmother who taught them many life lessons and skills and strongly encouraged them all to live their best lives.

Sheila is survived by her son Ray Khan and his wife Marcia, of Kansas City, MO; her son Daud Khan and his wife Barbara of Holiday Island, AR; her grandchildren: Daniyal Khan of Rancho Cordova, CA, Zach Khan of Joplin, MO, Sam Opalka of Vacaville CA, Jamila Khan of Ulster Park, NY, Laila Khan of Park Hill, OK; her great-grandchildren: Devin, Trevor, Aurora, Ella, Maverick, Daken and Ronin; her brother Norman Kamen and his wife Susan of London, England; her niece Sharon of London, England and her nephew Simon of Leeds, England; She is preceded in death by her husband Enver Khan, her father and mother, Samuel and Sarah Kamen, her brothers Philip and Mosie Kamen, her sister Debbie as well as her son Daniyal Khan.

The Khan family would like to thank The Blossoms at Eureka Springs, Arkansas Hospice and all those who took the time to care for Sheila in her final days.

In Sheila’s own words: “She lived a life!!”
