(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)Wayne Eugene Hood, 88, of Carthage, MO, formerly of Sarcoxie, Mo, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage, MO surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne was born on Monday, September 16, 1935, in Reeds, MO to the union of the late Lee Alva and Ida Hazel (Sanders) Hood. He was a graduate of Carl Junction High School.
On April 1, 1956, he was united in marriage to G. Colleen McGowen, and they shared fifty-nine years of wonderful memories until her passing on January 20, 2016. For more than thirty-five years, he operated a Hog Farm and loved it.
Later on, he was a school bus driver for the Sarcoxie School district. For years, he was involved with the Jasper County Youth Fair and served as superintendent of the swine division. He was an avid sports fan, bowling, basketball, softball and watching grandchildren play sports. He was a deacon, as well as chairman of the deacons and a member of the Gideons International. He was also a member of New Fairview Baptist Church in Sarcoxie. Wayne was a man with wonderful morals and great work ethics. He will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Colleen; his siblings, Alva Hood and wife, Earlene, Floyd “Todd” Hood, Maxine Carlson and husband, Bob, Dale Hood and Lucille Camp and husband, Bill.
Wayne is survived by his children, Terry Hood and wife Kim of Neck City, MO, daughters, Brenda Patrick and husband Tim and Barbara Stafford all of Carthage, MO, and Shonda McClure and husband Nathan of Nicholasville, KY, eleven grandchildren, Jeremy Hood (Cassie), Jennifer Tran, Tyler Hood (Shayla), Cody Hood (Heather), Jordan Hood (Olivia), Lendall Patrick (Kimberlee), Logan Patrick (Kristen), Landon Patrick (Raenan) Lynae Reynolds (Justin), Dillan Stafford (Kesslie) and Dalton Stafford (Vanessa); twenty-eight great grandchildren; and one great-great- grandson; sisters-in-law, Janice Hood and Marion “Tootie” Hood; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at New Fairview Baptist Church, Sarcoxie with Pastor Logan Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Carl Junction Cemetery, Carl Junction, MO. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
