Mary Jean Hopkins

Mary Jean Hopkins of Rolla departed from this life on March 27, 2024, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 9 days. She was born to the late Everett and Ethel (Long) Bartley on July 18, 1933, in Asbury, MO. 

Mary Jean graduated from Carl Junction High School with the class of 1951. She worked at Southwestern Bell in Joplin before coming to Rolla in 1958. She went to work for the United Telephone Company, now known as Brightspeed. She left the company for a while and returned on June 9, 1969. She retired from United Telephone in August 1989 after 21 years of service.







She married Dale Lee Myers Sr. on January 23, 1959. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1999. She then moved to Joplin and married her high school sweetheart, Bobbie D. Hopkins on February 21, 2000. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2002. She then moved back to Rolla where three of her children lived.

Mary Jean is survived by 3 daughters, Vickie Beresford of Medford, OR, Lena Schoenborn (Ron) and Patty Watkins (Butch) both of St. James, MO, and 1 son, Dale Lee Myers Jr. (Debbie) of Rolla, MO. She is also survived by an adopted daughter, Debbie Pasley (Tom) of Rolla, 1 brother Everett Bartley Jr (Chris) and 1 sister-in-law, Kathryn Bartley all of Asbury, MO, 2 brothers-in-laws, Johnny Myers (Carol) of Union, MO and Albert Myers (Connie) of Rolla MO. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and dear friends. 

She was also preceded in death by a daughter Donna Louise Zacharias, a grandson Nathan Ryan Frost, and a great granddaughter, Ryann Dayle, 7 sisters and 4 brothers.

She is also survived by 3 grandsons, Jacob Rier, of Medford, OR, Davy Watkins (Angie), and Nicholas Frost Jr, (Sarah) both of Rolla, MO. 2 step grandsons Austen Schoenborn (Liz) of Lee Summit, MO, and Nick Watkins (Erin) of Franklin, IN. 5 granddaughters Rebecca Zacharias of Lawton, OK, Martina Zacharias of Illinois, Whitney Stacey (Kenn) of Klamath Falls, OR, Stacey Watkins, Tracey Watkins and Skyler Myers all of Rolla, MO, An adopted granddaughter Heather Anderson (Scott) & their children Ethan and Emma all of San Antonio, FL, 4 step granddaughters Jenny Matthews (Josh), Ashley Sisson (Brad), and Angie Bowling (Justin) all of Indiana, and Carrie Livingston (Chris) of Warner Robins, GA.

Other survivors include 9 great grandsons, Anthony Rich and Christoper Rich of Cleveland, OH, Ryan Hurst of Waynesburg, PA, Devin Stacey of Klamath Falls, OR, Ethan Watkins, Jayce Watkins, Tyler Watkins all of Rolla, MO, Oscyrusz Humphrey of Edgar Springs, MO, and Roy Allen of Illinois. 9 great granddaughters Chelsea Ruda and her children Bentley & Adaline and Kaleigh Rich all of Ohio, Dawn Humphrey of Edgar Springs, MO, Salene Humphrey and Genavie Humphrey of Illinois, Kenadi Stacey of Klamath Falls, OR, Kaylee Dean (Connor) of Cuba, MO, Brionna Mullen (Cody) and their son Bryton Mogan of Ramstein, Germany, and Abby Chick of Newburg, MO.

Also survived by step great grandchildren, James Eyberg and his son James Eyberg III, Sydney Fryer (Austin) and their children Taylor & Logan, Savannah Hunt (Keeton), Mya Watkins and Mariah Watkins all of Rolla, MO. Braedyn Matthews, Gavin Matthews, Rebecca Watkins and her daughter, Dakota, Taylor Riley (Joe), Lincoln Watkins, Lila Watkins, Maverick Sisson, Emma Bowling and Kennedy Bowling all of Indiana.








Mary Jean had many dear friends over her lifetime and too many to name but her two dearest friends and lunchmates were Sherryl Hartley and Sharon McCrite, both of Rolla, MO.

Mary belonged to the Ft. Wyman Baptist Church and her wishes were for any memorial contributions be given to the Ft. Wyman Baptist Church.

A funeral service for Mary Jean Hopkins will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment will follow in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
