Barbara Gibson

Barbara L Gibson, age 86, a former Joplin resident, passed away on March 21, 2024, in New Braunfels Texas where she lived for the last six months. She was born on September 19, 1937, in Sherwin, KS, the daughter of the late Clarion and Blanche Poor.

Barbara graduated from Columbus High School in the spring of 1955 and married Charles R. Gibson in December of 1955. They were married until his passing in 2011. 







Charles and Barbara partnered in Christian ministry together for over 50 years. They ministered in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, New Mexico, and Texas. She was a member of Villa Heights Christian Church of Joplin, MO.

Barbara had three children: Charles (Dick) Gibson, Sheri Mecom and Doug Gibson. Barbara stayed at home when the kids were little and later worked as a secretary at a funeral home and a secretary in public schools. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and crafting. Her adventurous spirit and passionate heart were a constant source of entertainment to her family. She loved to laugh and was delighted by all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were blessed by her love for them and will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her oldest son, and her sister. Barbara is survived by, her daughter and husband Sheri and Mike Mecom of Bedford TX, her son and wife Doug and Danielle Gibson of New Braunfels TX, daughter in law and husband Carrie and Randy Wilson of Webb City, MO, seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.








Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 pm Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the New Braunfels Christian Church with her son, Doug Gibson, officiating. Barbara will be returned to Joplin where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 pm Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Friday, March 30, 2024, at Edgmand Cemetery in Columbus, KS.

Memorial contributions can be made to Villa Heights Christian Church or New Braunfels Christian Church in care of the mortuary.
