(From Carson-Wall Funeral Home)Melton Louis “Butch’ Hiatt, 79, of Parsons, passed away Tuesday morning, March 19, 2024, at his home in Parsons. His death was unexpected.
He was born on March 2, 1945, to Louis and Eunice (DuBois) Hiatt. Butch grew up at Alva and attended Alva schools graduating from Alva High School in 1963. He served in the United States Air Force for four years as an Air Freight Specialist during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Alva where he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State College in Alva.
He later moved to Parsons where he worked at The Coop in Altamont, Home Lumber in Parsons, Labette Community College, and UPS. He retired in 2008. Butch also did custodial work for churches.
He enjoyed woodworking, Kansas City Chiefs Football, reading, fishing, and most of all he loved and adored his family. He recently went on the Honor Flight trip Washington D.C. in honor of his service during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Living Hope Church of Parsons.
He and Carol Carnahan were married on July 30,1976 at the Friendship Southern Baptist Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, Butch is survived by his daughter, Tami Carnahan, of Parsons; his grandson, Malik Carnahan of Parsons; his sisters-in-law, Jean Reel of Parsons; Mary Alloway, and her husband, Larry of Carl Junction, MO, Helen Cole, and her husband, Monroe of Seneca, MO; his brother-in-law, Billy Wayne Carnahan, and his wife, Diane of Mound Valley; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and a brother-in-law, Wayne Reel.
A celebration of Butch’s life will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday at the Wall Family Center 2605 Main St. in Parsons.
