Fredda Hayward

Fredda M Hayward, age 85, passed away at 10:36 am Friday, March 22, 2024, at Quaker Hill Nursing Home, Lowell, KS.

Fredda was born September 29, 1938, in Alton, MO. Her parents were Ivan Eugene and Leila Fern (Lynch) Campbell. She had lived in Galena since 1961.

She graduated from Alton High School in 1957 and then earned a bachelor’s in education at SW MO State Teachers College in Springfield, MO. She began teaching Home Economics at Galena High School in 1961. She later taught at Baxter Springs (KS) High School, retiring in 1997.








She was an active member of Crossroads Christian Church, Baxter Springs and worked in several different Christian Ministries. She was a volunteer at Spring River Christian Village, Joplin, MO and the American Rehabilitation Ministries (ARM). She enjoyed flower gardening and sewing, but her greatest enjoyment was her grandkids, especially going to their ball games.

Fredda was married to Melvin Newton Hayward on August 10, 1963, in Joplin, MO. He passed away July 31, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dale Campbell, and Glen Campbell, one brother-in-law, Jay Morrison; and one grandson, Christian Hayward.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Hayward (Laura), Ozark, MO, and Mark Hayward (Jennie), Independence, KS; one brother, Ben Alan Campbell, Alton, MO; two sisters, Anna Jean Morrison, West Plains, MO and Patty Gamblin, Alton, MO; 5 grandchildren, Myka Hawkins (Thomas), Caden Hayward (Shayla), Sawyer Hayward, Cannon Hayward, and Jayci Hayward, one great-grandchild, Saylor Hayward and two on the way.








Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, March 25, 2024, at Crossroads Christian Church, Baxter Springs. Cameron Woodring will officiate. The burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 pm, Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Crossroads Christian Church, Baxter Springs, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Christian Church Youth Program in care of the funeral home.
