Andy Smallwood

Anthony Lee “Andy” Smallwood, age 74, passed away on March 25, 2026. He was born on January 31, 1952, in Carthage, Missouri.

Andy graduated from Carthage High School in 1970 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Tulsa. He spent much of his career working in the family business, Smallwood Gas Company. After his retirement from there, he went on to spend several years working for VSSI of Carthage, Missouri. He was also a valued member of the Magic Circle Investment Club.

Andy enjoyed a life full of simple pleasures and meaningful hobbies. He loved woodworking, golfing, yardwork, and spending time outdoors. He especially cherished the valuable time he and his son, Matt, spent together—time that meant a great deal to both of them. He also treasured his annual golf trips with “The Gang”, time spent in Colorado—one of his favorite places, and his “Friday Friends”. Andy valued his daily workouts at the YMCA, where he enjoyed both the routine and the friendships he built there.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Betty Smallwood, and his daughter, Hannah Smallwood.

Andy is survived by his loving wife, Debbie, whom he married on August 1, 1981; his son, Matt Smallwood and wife Abby; and his three cherished grandchildren, Leighton, Elowyn, and Florence, who lovingly called him “Happy.” He is also survived by his sister, Susan Smallwood Rucker; nieces Ashley and Nikki; his brother-in-law Gary Davidson and wife Denise; and nieces and nephew Ashley, Zach, and Stephanee.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Cherry’s in Carthage. Everyone is welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fair Acres YMCA in Carthage, Missouri, or to the Hannah Smallwood Friendship Memorial Scholarship in care of Carthage R-9 School District.

Andy will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his work ethic, and his love of the outdoors. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
