(From Clark Funeral Home)Virginia June Habecker went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 21, 2026, at the age of 92. Virginia was born on January 18, 1934, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Edwin Stewart and Rachel Edith (Manning) Thomson.
Virginia grew up Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Hershey High School. She and Eugene Walter Habecker were married on August 14,1954. When their children were young, she stayed home with them and was primarily a Homemaker, she also worked as a waitress on the weekends occasionally. When her kids were in school, Virginia began her professional career becoming a stenographer for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Over the years she volunteered for Meals on Wheels to serve meals to the elderly and shut ins with her granddaughter Lydia joining her. She also enjoyed her time as a Sample Lady at the various local Wal-Mart locations.
Known for her humor and quick wit, she would say things like, “We’re the dry Thomsons. There’s no p.” She was the kind of person to talk a little smack and she truly didn’t care what anyone thought. She insisted on looking put-together when she went out, blush, lipstick, earrings- she always looked just right.
A loving mother and Grandma Ginny, she always made a big deal of birthdays. Every year she would call her children on their birthdays and begin singing “Happy Birthday” as soon as they picked up the phone, and had a notably lovely singing voice. When she finished singing, or with the conversation, she’d just hang up. Her sons would jokingly say, “She hung up on her own terms”, and there was no time for goodbyes. She would even go as far as flagging down the school bus her granddaughter rode just to sing her “Happy Birthday”. Although embarrassed by Grandma Ginny at the time, she now looks back on that memory with laughter and fondness.
Virginia was a long-time member of the Wanda United Methodist Church, and a Auxiliary VFW Member. Before moving to Missouri, she was an active member of the Penbrook, Pennsylvania Post. Virginia moved her membership to the Monett Post when she relocated to Missouri. Generous with her time, she served as President of the Monett Auxiliary VFW for several years where she could be found organizing and serving at events and sometimes just relaxing and visiting with friends.
She was an avid reader, still taking a couple of newspapers, and reading them cover to cover every day. She also enjoyed steamy books, never losing her eye for a cute guy. She always said what was on her mind, even if it made those around her squirm. She was a strong, independent lady who survived the 2008 Newtonia tornado when her house blew away. She did get to spend some time living with Harry, bringing some spice to his life, while waiting on her new house to be finished.
She loved Jesus. She loved coffee. And she lived exactly the way she wanted to.
Virginia is survived by her children: Harry (Rose) Habecker of Stark City, Missouri, George Habecker of Pennsylvania, Thom Habecker of Nashville, Tennessee, and Leanna True of Columbia, Missouri; her grandchildren: Justin Habecker, Laura Land, Elizabeth True, and Lydia Habecker; her nine great grandchildren; and her younger sister, Miriam “Mim” Lois Zurn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, the father of her children, Eugene Walter Habecker.
A private family service is planned for a later date.
