Dolores Martenson

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Dolores Jean (Upstill) Martenson, age 100, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on March 15, 2026, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

She was born on March 4, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Carl and Verla Upstill. On November 27, 1946, she married John Martenson in Minneapolis, and together they shared many wonderful years and raised two children.

Dolores and John later made their home in Glendora, California. Throughout her life, Dolores wore many hats—working in banking and as a teacher—but she found particular joy in serving as the travel coordinator for the La Fetra Senior Center, where she helped others create lasting memories through travel.

She was a proud member of Sigma Kappa sorority and the American Association of University Women (AAUW), reflecting her lifelong commitment to education, community, and fellowship.

After the passing of her beloved husband, John, in March of 2015, Dolores moved to Missouri to be closer to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Dolores is survived by her son, Jay Martenson, and her daughter, Donna Martenson.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin, Missouri.

A graveside service and burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Long Beach, California where she will be placed with her husband.
