David James “Jake” Marbough, Sr., age 72, of Joplin, Missouri, entered into the gates of heaven on August 11, 2018 following a car accident.
Jake was born on September 27, 1945, in Joplin, Missouri. He was a part of the Joplin High School graduating class of 1963 and later graduated from Missouri Southern State University. He was employed by Quest Diagnostics and loved his work family. He began his military career at 19 years of age volunteering to join as a combat medic serving two tours in Vietnam. Jake served in the Marines, Navy and Army during that time. He retired in 2006 from the 203rd Army National Guard at the age of 60 after being deployed to Honduras, Panama, Alaska and serving a tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. He received two Purple Hearts and several other military medals during his years of service. He meant so much to so many soldiers and they were his military family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Harry and Marjorie Marbough; and sister-in-law, Nancy Peterson.
Jake is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Marbough, Joplin; four children, Sharon Munn, Joplin, Debra Dodson and husband, Steve, Purdy, Missouri, Michael Marbough and wife, Trudi, Billings, Missouri, and David Marbough II and wife, Lisa, Diamond, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, Shane Munn and wife, Julie, Joplin, Blake Isenmann, Carthage, Emily Marbough, Joplin, Micah, Abbey and Madison Marbough, Nevada, Missouri, David Marbough III, Peyton Marbough and Victoria Marbough, Diamond, Missouri, Kristin Dodson, Republic, Missouri, Devin Dodson and wife, Lindsey, Purdy, Missouri, Brandon Dodson and wife, Rebecka, Springfield, Missouri, Meghan Nascimento and husband, Eli, Overland Park, Kansas, and Donnie Hanson, Springfield, Missouri; seventeen great-grandchildren; and his best fur buddy, Spanky.
Jake had a strong faith in God and never met a stranger. He opened his home and heart to anyone in need. Jake was a Dad, Brother and Grandpa to everyone that he knew and loved. There are countless numbers that he considered “his kids” we could not begin to list them all. He loved his wife with all of this heart and set a beautiful example of how a man should treat his bride.
Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, at One Church in Joplin with Pastor Shane Munn officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Shane Munn, David Marbough III, Blake Isenmann, David Altman, Steve Dodson, Peyton Marbough, Rob Powell and Chuck Munn. The family will receive friends for visitation at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to One Church Joplin Kids Club, 2802 New Hampshire Ave., Joplin, Missouri 64804. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
