Eileen Powell

Neva "Eileen" Powell, 87, of McCune, KS, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2018, at Webb City Health and Rehab, Webb City, MO.

She was born February 21, 1931, in rural Newton, KS, the daughter of Otto G. and Annie L. (Stevenson) Ulbrich.

Eileen lived in Newton, KS, until the age of 6 and her family then moved to a farm southeast of McCune, KS. She graduated from McCune Rural High School 1949. She graduated from Mt. Carmel Hospital Sisters of St. Joseph nursing school in 1953.

On February 14, 1953, she was united in marriage to Loren French Powell at the First Baptist Church, Weir. He survives of the home. After they were married they moved to rural McCune where they bought a farm and named it Hazy Meadow Farm and have lived there ever since.

Mrs. Powell was a registered nurse at Labette County Medical Center for over thirty years.

She survived by her husband Loren, and her daughter, Linda Rockers and her husband Jerry of Joplin, MO; two sons, Kenneth Powell and his wife Kay of Topeka, KS and Robert Powell and his wife Susan of Howe, OK; a daughter-in-law, Beth (Broyles) Cullum of Baxter Springs, KS; two sisters, Barbara Caughron and her husband Glenn of Wichita, KS, and Virginia Lanier and her husband Duane of Newton, KS; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Powell is preceded in death by her son Donald Loren Powell, sisters, Julia Miller, Marjorie Pape, Georgia Mattox and Elsie L. Milleman and brothers, Frank and Charles Ulbrich.

A service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2018, at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor James Billings officiating. Burial will follow in McCune City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the service on Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.
