Frank Carlton Young, age 72, Joplin, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, surrounded by his loving wife, Amy and other family members.
He was born July 18, 1946 in Manhattan, KS to the late Frank Young and Dorothy Shroyer Young.
Frank graduated as a member of the Manhattan High School class of 1964. He then graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1968 and received his Masters degree from the University of Cincinnati.
He worked for the Department of the Army for 30 years before retiring to Joplin, where he continued his love of painting.
Frank was a very talented artist. He sold many paintings and had many showings in galleries throughout his artistic career. He loved being an artist and enjoyed visiting and participating in the local art community.
Frank, Amy and their dog, Sam traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Alaska in their motorhome. Plans this summer would have included a trip to the Pacific north west to visit the four remaining states.
Frank enjoyed cooking and often tried new and different menus during his travels. He especially loved and enjoyed fishing at his sister’s home in the country.
He married Amy Frett, on March 15, 2014 in Joplin. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include one son, Collin Young and wife, Shirley, Liberty, MO; one stepson, Jason Frett, Joplin; one daughter, Carson McCabe and husband, Joseph, Corpus Christi, TX; two grandsons, Cameron and Mason Young, Liberty; four step granddaughters, Jessica, Skyeler and Emma Frett and Lacie Schofield; and two sisters, Macey Soupene and husband, Bill, Anamosa, IA, and Susan Mitchell and husband, David, Manhattan, KS.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a niece, Leigh Soupene- O’Neal; and a 10-month old step great-grandson, Jack Eugene Schofield.
Memorial services are planned for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jeff D. Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to FSIG, to help with the fight of Anderson – Fabry disease, and may be left in care of the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
