John 'Johnny' Arthur Williams, age 65, Joplin, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, after a sudden illness.
John was born May 24, 1953 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Helen Williams and the late 'Happy' Jack Williams and he lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
John owned and operated Williams Entertainment Agency for over twenty five years. He booked bands, DJ's, and also performed. For many years, 'Johnny' was known to the music world as the lead guitarist and vocalist for 'Blade' and 'Sassafras', playing at area venues and benefits all over the country. He was currently employed at West 7th Street Salvage.
He came from a music family. In his younger years, Johnny performed on radio and television with his parents on 'Ozark Jamboree' and the 'Happy Jack and Helen Show'. John also served as past president of the local musicians union. When he wasn't performing on stage, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
John married Susan Sieverding on February 26, 1982 in Elk Point, South Dakota. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Belinda Williams, Joplin, Michelle Williams and husband, Gene Tennar, Joplin, Marilyn Miksell and husband, Justin, Jasper, Missouri; his mother, Helen Williams, Copan, Oklahoma; two brothers, Ricky Williams, Dewey, Oklahoma, Randy Williams and wife, Cindy, New Bern, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Sandy Williams, Republic, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Kelsie Williams, Isaiah Clark, Blake Miksell, Eugene Tennar, Cameron Miksell, Nicolette Halverson, Lucas Miksell, Isiah Halverson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Williams.
Services are planned for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Christpoint Church, Galena, Kansas. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roy Stinnett, Matt Duncan, Bob Booker, Greg Banfield, Dave Gratton, Mark Roy, Tom Reynolds and Chris Goodwin. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
