Helen Holt

Helen Virginia Holt, age 95, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018, in the comfort of her home.

Helen was born December 24, 1922, in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Albert and Martha (Huercamp) Hoagland. After graduating high school, Helen attended Joplin Junior College and studied business. On December 30, 1950, Helen was united in marriage to Jack Gordon Holt and to this union two sons were born. She worked as a homemaker while raising her children and later worked for Prudential, where she retired as an office manager.

Helen was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin and she loved her church family. She enjoyed gardening and antique collecting. In her earlier years, Helen could be often be found at Camp Crowder’s dance hall doing the jitterbug. Most importantly, she loved her family and she will always be remembered for her caring nature.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Jack, in 1997; a son, Michael, in 2014; and three siblings, Abby, Bud and Don Hoagland.

Survivors include her son, Gregory Holt, of Joplin; three grandchildren, Heidi Law and husband, Jeff, Chris Holt and Heather Felkel and husband, Matt, all of Joplin; three great-grandchildren, Owen, Aaron and Vivian; a sister-in-law, Mary Hoagland, of Webb City; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Holt are 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2018, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Gregory Mech officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Rick Wilson, Martin Miller, Jeff Law, Earl Hill, David Hoagland and Christopher Selsor. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of the mortuary. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
