Nadine Johnson

Nadine L. Johnson 97 of Pittsburg, Kansas, was called by the Lord on August 7, 2018. She was born in Yates Center, Kansas on March 18, 1921 to Hoyt B. and Naomi Silvey Stocker, and graduated from Girard High School in 1938. 

Nadine spent over three years in the U.S. Navy during WWII, attaining the rank of Chief Yeoman. She was baptized at the Brookland Southern Baptist Church, Wash., D.C.; later held membership in First Baptist Church, Pittsburg. She also attended the First Church of the Nazarene, where she played in the Bell Choir. Nadine graduated Pittsburg Business College in 1939 and received Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kansas State Teachers College (PSD) in 1955. Memberships include: Gents and Janes, Progressive Study Club, Women's International Bowling Congress, Kansas PTA, Chapter #74 Order of Eastern Star, Azrim Temple #81, Daughters of the Nile, YMCA, AARP, NARFE, Avenue of Flags, American Legion Post 394, U.S. Navy Memorial, National WWII Veterans Memorial, and Prestige at St. John's Medical Center, Joplin. She is also included in PSU, Girard Big Flag, and Yates Center Veterans' Memorials.

She married Alfred A. Johnson on June 30, 1946. Nadine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers (Max F. Stocker; Nelson Edward Stocker), and her daughter, Karen Sue.

Survivors include sons: Hoyt Johnson & wife, Debby, Pittsburg; Kent Johnson and former wife Terri, Pittsburg; Grandsons: Jamey Johnson & wife Rachel, Pittsburg ; Kip Johnson, Joplin; Tad Johnson & wife Johnna, Webb City, Tyler Johnson, Pittsburg, and Austin Johnson, Bartlesville, OK. She also has six great-grand¬children: Caiden, Jarod, Landon, Avery, Holden, and Rhett Johnson. She is survived by six cousins: Marion Jr., Larry, Darrell and Dwayne Silvey, Jan Mosher, and Joyce Lakin.

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Yates Center Cemetery. Family will receive friends, Friday, August 10, 2018 from 6:30-8 pm at Bath Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg.
