Lucille Culley

Lucille Culley, 98, died peacefully on August 9, 2018 at Oak Pointe in Carthage, MO surrounded by her family. Lucille was born July 8, 1920 in Sarcoxie, Mo to Clarence and Hattie “Coates” Palmer. She graduated from Sarcoxie High School, then moved to Carthage where she met her husband, Era F. Culley. They were married on April 13, 1940 in Columbus, KS.

Lucille and Era co-owned and operated Palmer-Culley Market for 13 years. Later they opened and operated Culley’s Market on Route 66 in Carthage until they retired in 1964. After their retirement, they operated a cattle farm northeast of Carthage. Lucille took great pleasure in cooking family dinners and caring for all of the animals at the farm, especially the barn cats.

Lucille is survived by one son, Gerald “Jerry” Culley and wife Starla of Carthage; one daughter, Carolyn K. Cole and husband Gary of Carthage; one step-daughter, Louera L. Walker and husband Leon of Jasper; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Park Cemetery in Carthage.
