(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)
Lovingly Written by Balin’s Family ~
Balin Thomas Joy, 18, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away suddenly on Saturday morning, August 11, 2018, at his home.
Balin was born May 24, 2000, in Joplin, Missouri. He was adopted on May 24, 2005 and moved to Pryor, Oklahoma. He spent nine years in Tulsa before moving to Joplin in 2017.
Balin was a photographer who liked to experiment with color, the outdoors, and smoke. He enjoyed cooking for his friends. He liked clothes shopping and had a style all his own. He enjoyed shooting pool. Going out to the local trails and secret wilderness areas was a favorite pastime.
Balin was generous to a fault, freely giving of his time and energy and love to those in need. Helping others was his calling. He was courageous. He was tough. He was funny, always making a joke. He was so clever. He was kind.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gary Beeson.
Balin is survived by his parents, Micah and Kelley; his sister, Rose; his maternal grandmother, Margaret; his paternal grandparents, Ty and Sandee; aunts and uncles, Jessica, Don, Paul, Sara, Tylie, Brian, and Whitney; and cousins Moira, Maddox, and Berlin.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin. There is a reception afterwards at St. Paul’s Church, 2423 W. 26th Street, Joplin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
