Bobby Snodgrass

Bobby Lee Snodgrass, 87, of Joplin, Missouri passed away on March 8, 2020 at Freeman Hospital with his family members by his side after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born on April 20, 1932, to Walter and Sarah Snodgrass at Abbyville, Kansas. Bobby had attended grade school in Exeter, Missouri and graduated as valedictorian from Fairview High School in 1949. After graduating from high school, Bobby joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and was stationed at Riverside, California.

On July 10, 1952, he married the love of his life, Betty Erisman at Fairview, Missouri. The two enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage together.

After his discharge from the Air Force, Bobby and Betty made their home in Kansas City, Missouri. Shortly thereafter, the couple settled in Joplin, where he finished his 38-year career with the United States Post Office, having retired in 1987. During his career, he was an active member of the American Postal Workers Union, having served as president for the state of Missouri. Bobby started his second career after retirement as a field representative for Ozark National Life Insurance. He sold life insurance in the Joplin area for over 20 years.

Bobby and Betty loved square and round dancing and were active members of the “Shirts and Skirts” Club in Joplin. They enjoyed traveling and have been in all states except Alaska together. He enjoyed car shows and working on the restoration of antique cars. Bobby was a very kind and loving husband and father to his wife and children. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others at any time and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his three sons at their shop, Snodgrass Collision Center. Bobby and Betty were members of First United Methodist Church.








Survivors include his wife, Betty, of 68 years; three children, Michael (Mary) Snodgrass of Webb City, Mo., Dana (Nancy) Snodgrass of Joplin, Mo., and Terry (Debbie) Snodgrass of Joplin, Mo., 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Lester (Vada) Snodgrass of Idaho.

Bobby was preceded in death by one grandson, Johnathan Woods, a brother, Darrell Summers, and three sisters: Nina Milich, Viola Robinson, Lawanda Henbest.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to either the First United Methodist Church of Joplin or to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.

Services have been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church of Joplin. Pastor Marsha West Eichler, will officiate. Burial will follow at Dice Cemetery near Fairview, Mo. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

The arrangements have been entrusted to the personal care of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
