Lewis Brooks

Lewis “Buster” S. Brooks, 76, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Lewis was born August 16, 1943 in Carthage to C. W. and Agnes “Simpson” Brooks. He was a sheet metal mechanic in the United States Air Force and the Air Force Reserves. Lewis retired as a master sergeant after 26 years in the military. When he moved back to Carthage, he opened Lew’s Barber Shop just off the Square. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #197 in Carthage.

Lewis was united in marriage to Vickie Lois Moody in 1963. They were married for 39 years; she preceded him in death in 2002. He was then united in marriage to Amy Avram on April 29, 2005 in Orange Park, Florida; she survives.










Lewis is also survived one son, Lonnie Brooks (Shelley) of Valley Springs, CA; one daughter, Lisa Kirby (Scott) of San Antonio, TX; two step-sons, Andrew Anderson (Samantha) and Nicholas Anderson (Jullianna); seven grandchildren, Michael Engstrom, Emily Roberts, Amanda Hughes, Brandon Brooks, Brittany Brooks, Blaine Brooks and Chance Brooks; along with nine great grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Opal Faye Campbell (2019).

Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Memorial services will immediately follow at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Masonic Lodge #197 in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
