Betty Dean

Mrs. Betty Lou Dean, 83, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020, in the comfort of her home.

Betty was born March 23, 1936, in Carterville, Missouri, to the union of the late Roy and Velma (Scott) Hedgcorth. She was a graduate of Carterville High School. On April 10, 1955, Betty was united in marriage to Ivan Dean and together they had two children, Richard and Linda. She worked as a homemaker raising her family and taking care of the home. Betty resided in many different cities while following her husband’s Army career and was always devoted to him and her family. Her family was her entire world and she deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Richard; her sister, Frances Heininger; and two brothers, Dean and Dale Hedgcorth.








Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Ivan Dean, of the home; her daughter, Linda DeBold and husband, Frank, of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Tina Pham and husband, An, of Monett, Missouri, Dennis Tanner and wife, Gloria, of Phoenix, and Carrie Dean of Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kyle, April, Nathan and Samara; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2020, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin with Gayle Ludwig officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at 10:00 Thursday at the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
