Judy Divine

(From Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home)

Judy Kay Divine, age 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 26, 2020 after a stroke-related illness.

Judy was born on July 21, 1945, in Joplin, Missouri. Her parents were Bill Gladden and Betty McGhee Gladden.

Judy grew up in Purcell, Missouri, and graduated from Webb City High School in 1963. She attended Joplin Junior College.

Marriage produced the top three priorities in her life, her sons Craig, Scott and Mark. She worked diligently to provide for the boys, securing jobs at Howsmon’s Office Supply, several banks and the Insurance Center in Joplin. Judy attended several churches and enjoyed each denomination. She was a Christian.

Judy married Erran Divine on June 1, 1991. They resided in Webb City, before moving to the country east of town in 1998. She retired, and together they raised cattle and hay crops. Judy loved to work in her yard, and put in a big garden each year. She loved to cook, and was happiest when the whole family met at her home to share a meal, serving her world famous “Nanny burgers.” She was a Mom to many, and her kindness made an impact on multiple people throughout her life. Her door was always open to others beside her own family.

Judy had a great fondness for her grandchildren. She enjoyed completing craft projects with them when they were small, and attended numerous school functions and sporting events to support them.

Family was the most important thing in Judy’s life. Her greatest joy was to have the family all together in her house. Judy’s hugs were infectious. When she hugged you, she did so to share her love. She wanted happiness for everyone.

Judy is survived by her husband Erran Divine of the home, three sons Craig Smith (Ginny), kids Kacie and Taylor, Virginia Beach, Virginia; Scott Smith and son Tyler, Kansas City, MO; Mark Smith (Kamber), kids Tate and Talyn, Webb City, MO; four stepsons, Curtis Divine, Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Phil Divine (Connie), kids Dennisa and Katie, Columbia, MO; Brent Divine (Lori), Joplin, MO, kids Sara and Josh; Eric Divine, Joplin, MO; four great grandchildren, and her mother-in-law Bernice Eden.

Graveside services will be held Monday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Friends Cemetery in Purcell, Missouri. Viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. For those wishing to not attend the public graveside service, a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Services are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, Judy would love it if friends and family would drive by the cemetery playing her favorite song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” and honk your horn or purchase food gift cards for Erran’s new eating fund.
