Mrs. Eulah Mae Gollhofer, 96, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Westgate Care Facility at Wildwood Ranch in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.
Eulah entered this life on March 7, 1924, in Joplin, Missouri, daughter of the late Otho and Leona (Snead) Stokes. She was raised in Joplin, Missouri, and was a 1941 graduate of Joplin High School.
In June of 1943, she was united in marriage to James Gollhofer and to this union one son was born. During WWII, she resided in California and Kansas City, Missouri, and worked in aircraft and ammunition manufacturing. In 1962, she and James moved to Independence, Kansas, where they remained until retiring to a farm in Sarcoxie, Missouri, in 1987. She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Gollhofer, on February 11, 1990; a brother, Todd Stokes; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Gollhofer, on October 13, 2019.
Eulah is survived by her son, Jim Gollhofer, of Canton, Georgia; two granddaughters, Sabrina Hazzard and husband, Kevin, of Manhattan Beach, California, and Jessica Purifoy and husband, Marvin, of Atlanta, Georgia; four great-grandchildren, Jay and Victoria Hazzard and M.J. and Janey Purifoy; three sisters, Betty Thompson of Joplin, Joanne Harvey of Denver, Colorado, and Barbara Stokes of Kansas City, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020, in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri, with Dr. John Swadley officiating. Burial will follow in the Sarcoxie Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
