Marge E. Craggett, 98 of Baxter Springs, KS passed from this life on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at her home.
Marge Craggett was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family knew her best as Mamaw, but to others she was known as Miss Marge. Miss Marge had many accomplishments in life but the ones she held most dear to her heart were her family and her students.
Marge graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1978. She dedicated her life to working in the field of education. Spending 36 years at SEK-CAP Head Start and retiring at 80 years old, she shared her love for learning with each student that entered her classroom.
After retirement, Marge wasn’t ready to leave her students. At 81 she decided to return to the work field by spending her time with students once again at Little Lites Early Learning Center in Baxter Springs, KS. Here she continued her care for children for 4 years doing what she loved most, inspiring kids. Years after she left the classroom, it was not uncommon to hear a friendly “Hello Miss Marge” from former students left and right. All who reminisced on their days in her classroom and care and speak of the impact she had made in their lives. There was not a child who entered her classroom or care who did not feel loved and encouraged by Miss Marge.
The love for her students wasn’t the only love she fiercely showed in life. Her family always came first in her eyes. There was never a moment she wasn’t fully dedicated and involved in all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s lives. Her life revolved around those closest to her. All who have felt the love of Mamaw or Miss Marge have been forever impacted by a special love that will continue for years to come.
Marge had another deep love for her animals and current companion, Rosa, a terrier mix she adopted from the Joplin Humane Society. Rosa was Marge’s pride and joy apart from her family and students. She felt very deeply about animals and creating a loving home and environment for any and every animal. Due to her compassion for her best buddy Rosa, and all others needing homes, we ask that any donations be made to the Joplin Humane Society in honor of Marge.
Marge is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sarah Young; six brothers, and four sisters.
Marge is survived by two daughters, Sara Jo Sweeton and husband Chuck of Baxter Springs, KS, and Kathy Jon Reynolds and husband Theo of Carl Junction, MO; grandchildren, Vicki Leigh Faulkner and husband Kevin, Danny Corbin Davis and wife Rosita, Teddy Lee Reynolds; great grandchildren, Emily Jo Faulkner, Trenton Dale Faulkner, Tyler Joseph Davis, Corbin Daniel Davis, Beckett Warren Davis, Serenity Reynolds, Josalyn Foraker, and Kalista Fort and Sadie Miller; along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2020 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastor Claude Craig will officiate. Margie has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation. Memorial donations may be made to Joplin Humane Society, 140 E. Emperor Ln. Joplin, MO 64801 or in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
