Cheryl Lynn Wilson was received in Heaven by her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of March, 10, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, after a brief illness.
Cheryl was born on August 21, 1971, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and raised in Lamar, Missouri. She graduated from Lamar High School as a member of the Class of 1989. While working as a waitress at the Blue Top Inn, she served a meal to a hungry young man and subsequently, but reluctantly, agreed to a date with him to Chicken Annie’s restaurant in Mulberry, Kansas, which was just beyond the Missouri state line.
For reasons never disclosed, she declined the offer to go for ice cream after supper which was certainly dispiriting to the young man at the time. Nonetheless, love grew strong and one year after that first date, she married the young man, Paul Kent Wilson, on July 19, 1991, in Lamar, Missouri. Two amazing people were born of the marriage: Kirsten LeAnn Gorman, of Roeland Park, Kansas, and Caleb Kent Wilson, of Johnson City, Tennessee. Cheryl proved to be a dedicated wife and mother and made many personal sacrifices to allow her family to pursue their individual interests.
Though the family would have preferred a quiet life in a small town, that was not the hand to be played. Life, with its many opportunities and challenges as well as ups and downs, carried them to Springfield, Missouri; Des Moines, Iowa; Independence, Missouri; Warrensburg, Missouri; Jonesborough, Tennessee; Union City, Tennessee; and finally, Martin, Tennessee.
In 2013, in accordance with her lifelong passion, Cheryl earned a Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University in Child and Family Development. She was judged to be a top prospect in her profession by the university faculty and she was strongly encouraged to pursue an advanced degree and a career in research and academics. Cheryl, however, preferred the practical application of her education and talent and went to work immediately. It is no uncertainty that she has had a positive influence on many children, families, and colleagues alike.
She was a member of Troy #432 Order of the Eastern Star and had been a devoted member of several Baptist churches over the years. She was ardent in her study of Scripture and demonstrated her faith in many practical ways.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents as well as her father-in-law.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul K. Wilson and the two adult children previously mentioned. She is also survived by her parents, Kendall and Brenda Gire of Lamar, Missouri; her sisters Carol Jo Dill (Steve) and Adrian Gire of Lamar, Missouri; a brother Travis (Melissa) Gire of Stockton, Missouri; a brother Trever Gire. Additionally, there are many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly. Close to her heart especially was her son-in-law, Caleb Gorman, who has been another son to us. She was also enjoying a growing fondness for the special friend of our son, Elizabeth Wiesinger and her daughter Mya of Johnson City, Tennessee. Cheryl was especially thankful for the opportunity witness the growth of two special children, Elizabeth and George, as well as her friendship with the Joiner family.
Visitation and services are under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri. Visitation is planned for Sunday, March 15th, from 2-4 pm at the funeral home. Services will be Monday, March 16th at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
Memorial donations in the honor of Cheryl’s life may be made to the children’s charity of the donor’s choice.
