(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)George Marshall “Hopper” Ramsey, age 79, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 2:16 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Cox South Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri. He was born June 26, 1946, in Oxford, Mississippi, the son of Carl Elton and Gladys Ann (Johnson) Ramsey.
George graduated in 1964 from Oxford High School in Oxford, Mississippi. He joined the army in 1966, where he learned vehicle maintenance and mechanics. He served four years and was stationed in Germany, where he was promoted to Specialist E-5. He worked for the USPS as a letter carrier for more than 20 years, in Dallas, Texas, where he met and married Mary Joann Ainsworth, on January 22, 1976. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2021.
Heavily involved in the Masonic Fraternal Families, he began his journey with his initiation into the Washington Lodge 1117 A.F. & A.M. in Dallas, Texas, where he rose through the degrees and achieved level of Master Mason. He furthered his journey to receive the 32nd degree as he advanced through the Scottish rite. George was also a proud member of the Hella Temple of Shriners. He started his climb towards Worthy Grand Patron of MO O.E.S. when he and Mary joined Loyal Chapter #648 O.E.S. in Dallas, Texas, where he served through many stations and eventually Worthy Patron. George found his calling in O.E.S. having dual memberships in Texas and Missouri. Where in Missouri after the loss of his wonderful wife Mary and a crippling bout with Covid, George was inducted into the East as Worthy Grand Patron.
George is survived by three sons, Terry Ramsey of Estero, Florida, Larry Ramsey of Lancaster, Texas and Marty Ramsey of Randolph, Mississippi; three sisters, Ella May Daniels, Lynda “Sis” Jackson and her husband, Bob, and Peggy Haynie and her husband, Wayne, all of Oxford, Mississippi; one brother, Dean Ramsey and his wife, Myrna, of Tucson, Arizonia; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Carl, and Gladys; his wife, Mary, and seven siblings.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
