(From Clark Funeral Home)Helen Louise McCumber Elder, 79, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026 at her home in Neosho, Missouri after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease.
Helen was born on February 1, 1947 in Granby, Missouri to Lonnie and Helen McCumber. She graduated from Granby High School in 1965. She worked for many years as a hair stylist in Granby and as an aerobics instructor at Crowder College, and then later for 20 years at Freeman Hospital as a Records Supervisor in Neosho.
She married Richard Elder on December 2, 1967 and they raised two sons, Dustin and Shannon. She was heavily involved in the school and her community in Granby and both she and Richard were very active in their church, Rocketdyne Road Church of Christ, until her illness. Her true passion was in raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents Lonne & Helen McCumber and her brother Richard McCumber. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Richard Elder, sons Dustin (Wendy) Elder and Shannon (Lee Ann) Elder, sisters Patricia Carver and Nyla Naramore, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Granby Memorial Cemetery this Friday, March 13th at 2:00 pm. Service officiated by Denny Kruse. Honorary Paul Bearers include Dustin Elder, Shannon Elder, Carter Elder, Gabe Elder, Ronnie Naramore, and Blain Naramore.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful support of their caring staff these last few years with Helen.
