John Adam Houston of Republic, MO passed from this life Monday, May 4, 2026 at his home. He was 64.

John was born August 19,1961 in Baxter Springs, KS to Tommie and Ina Mae (Lee) Houston. He graduated from Picher- Cardin High School class of 1979 and then received his Bachelor Degree. He had lived in the Joplin, MO area for many years. He had worked for AIDS Project of the Ozarks in Joplin, MO. John served on Missouri Community Planning Group for HIV Prevention for 20 years and served as a board member for Joplin Metro Credit Union for 6 years.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence “Doc” and Dixie Houston and Clinton and Lucille Lee.

John is survived by his spouse, Patrick Hurn of the home, his parents, Tommie and Ina Mae Houston of Afton, OK and 1 sister, Sherry Houston of Joplin, MO.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026 at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK. David Garner will officiate. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK. Aaron Pyle, Toby Sissons, Mark McAtee, Michael Castor, Aaron Rochon and Garrick Rochon will serve as pallbearers. Steve Lasiter, Norman Vanderbilt and Jeff White will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary at 602 S. Byers Ave, Joplin, MO.
