Kevin Sechrest

Kevin Gene Sechrest, age 56, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on April 27, 2026, at Carthage Health and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident for over a year.

Kevin was born on September 3, 1969, in Nevada, Missouri, to Larry Sechrest and Janet (Mayfield) Sechrest. He was a graduate of Lamar High School and attended Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church.








Kevin had a lifelong love of sports. He played softball with his church team and enjoyed playing basketball with friends at Grace Place. While in college, he also played racquetball at the YMCA. His favorite sport was football, and he was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos from a young age.

As a child, Kevin enjoyed camping trips with his parents at Buffalo River State Park. These trips were often shared with his close cousins, Teresa and Mike Keithly, along with their parents. Kevin also had a passion for board games. He regularly played with friends on Wednesday nights at Changing Hands in Joplin and spent many cherished hours playing games with his parents. Kevin loved food and could always be found watching food shows on television. He was a huge animal lover, including his dog, Sugar and his cat, Furball.

Survivors include his parents, Larry and Janet Sechrest; his aunts, Nadine Mayfield and Patty Kennemer; and his close cousins, Mike Keithly and Teresa Butler.








He was preceded in death by his aunts and uncles, Jean and Bob Keithly and Lyn and Marilyn Mayfield; his uncle, Deb Mayfield; and his grandparents, Harvey and Iva Mayfield and Coy and Mary Sechrest.

Kevin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Daniel Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Lake Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the ASPCA or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
