Donald Dene Jones, age 89, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at National Healthcare, following a long illness.
Donald was born on May 26, 1925, in Rocky Comfort, Mo., the son of the late J.B. and Pearl (Parker) Jones. He graduated from Rocky Comfort High School. He attended John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ar. He served in the United States Navy Seabees and was a veteran of WWII. He worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue as a state auditor. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Donald married Pauline Cole on April 6, 1942. They recently celebrated seventy-two years of marriage. Donald and Pauline had two children. Donald loved his church, his country and his family. He has been a great spiritual influence to many young men whom he ministered in his Bible training classes. He served as an Elder and as a preacher for many small area Churches of Christ.
Donald is survived by his wife, Pauline (Cole) Jones, Joplin; daughter, Linda Thomas and her husband Lowell, Nixa, Mo.; six grandchildren, Lance, Tyler, Doug, Jeremiah, Truman, and Tiffany; and eight great-grandchildren; Sophie, Vivian, Chetan, Rohan, Lakshmi, Alie, Levi, and Zac. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Jones; four brothers, Duncan, Dennis, Danny, and David Jones; and six sisters, Retha Westfall, Bertha Brooks, Neva Keller, Inez Barnwell, Leta Gesturing and Wanda Sweeney. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at national Healthcare for their care of Donald in recent years.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Lowell Thomas, Minister, will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Exeter Cemetery in Exeter, Mo. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
