James Wilson (Jim) Perry, age 87 of Joplin, formerly of Branson, MO, passed away at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Spring River Christian Village.
Born March 31, 1927 in Follett, TX, he was the son of the late Hugh L. Perry and Estella Gigger Perry. Jim was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He graduated from Goodman (MO) High School, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1950 and his Master of Science in Extension Education in 1955, both from the University of Missouri. He spent his career with the University of Missouri Extension Division. Following retirement he continued with the Missouri Department of Conservation for nine years.
Jim was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Joplin. He was involved in 4-H and Youth for five years, Farm Management for three years, Community Development and Tourism for 24 years and Federal Land Bank for four years. He was a member of Gideon’s International, M.U. Retirees’ Association, University of Missouri Extension Retirees’ and Rotary. Jim organized and coached Branson Pee Wee Football for 30 years. He developed Youth Fishing Days, organized the Branson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Chapter, served as Cub Master for Cub Scouts, coached Little League Baseball and taught Adult and Youth Sunday School classes.
On March 18, 1949 he married Ralpha Morgan at Sikeston, MO. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Jan Agee and husband Allen of Allen, TX; a son, Jamie Perry and wife Tammy of Joplin; a brother, Hugh Perry of Austin, TX; a sister, Bobby Cunningham of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren, Heather Overton and husband Dave of College Station, TX, Kyle, Kurt and Logan Perry, all of Joplin; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary in Joplin with Joe Cross officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the mortuary, preceding the service; beginning at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International.
