(From Parker Mortuary)
Janet Lynn DeLong Holsombach passed away in her home in Joplin, MO on August 3, 2014. Janet was born on January 17, 1953 in Chillicothe, OH to the late Ellen C. DeLong and Nolan E. DeLong. She moved to Pierce City as a child and then later to Joplin, where she attended Parkwood High School. She found a profession as an insurance agent working for Shield Insurance and Farm Bureau in Joplin, Stallings Insurance in Tampa, Allstate Insurance and Powell Insurance in Louisiana, before returning back to Joplin to be closer to her family.
Janet enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for seven years, spending close to six months stationed in Germany. She attended Southwest Missouri State University working towards an associate’s degree.
Janet married Bill Creasy in Joplin, MO and then later Byron Holsombach in Tampa. FL.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Holsombach of Denver, CO and Richard Holsombach of Rhode Island, five grandchildren-Zachary, Baylee, Claire, Aria, and Alena, two brothers, Nick and Rodney DeLong, sister, Rebecca Ann Hutchinson, and Pierre, her Yorkshire Terrier. She was preceded in death by both parents.
Everyone who knew Janet understood her love of family. This is evident in her passion for collecting family photos, scrapbooking, and quilting. She also enjoyed gardening and learning about nature. Even though these were two of her passions, she will best be remembered for her cooking and baking, especially her southern-fried chicken, pecan pies, and chocolate-chip cookies. It broke her heart to be so far away from all of her grandchildren, but a phone call, and a familiar bunny song would make the distance seem closer.
Janet once wrote in a card to her mother “I will always be near you in my heart and soul. And now we can plan of being together forever.”
In keeping with her wishes, Janet Lynn Holsombach will join her mother in a memorial service to be held on August 11, 2014 at 11am at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
