James Wesley "Jim" Hughes, age 59, Joplin, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 at his home after a sudden illness.
Jim was born October 12, 1954 in Joplin, son of the late John W. Hughes and Jean A. Smart Hughes. He graduated from Parkwood High School in 1972, and then graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He worked for Radio Shack in Joplin for a number of years as manager, and then moved to Texas where he was owner of three Sonic restaurants. He moved back to Joplin and worked for Lowry's Business Systems, and most recently was a software supervisor for H & R Block in Kansas City.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, Ryan Wesley Hughes in 2002.
Survivors include his sons, James M. Hughes and wife Amy of Savannah, Georgia, Jeff Hughes of Kansas City, Kansas, and Samuel Hughes of Joplin; grandchildren, Ava and Justus; mother of his children, Beth Cooper of Lake of the Ozarks; two brothers, Dr. William Hughes and wife Maureen of Joplin, and John Hughes and wife Carla also of Joplin; sister, Kathy Corcoran of Olathe, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel.
The family will visit with friends following the service.
