(From Derfelt Funeral Home)James Phaire Watkins (Schutz), known affectionately as "JP", passed away at 11:20 am on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO after a battle with cancer.
JP was born on April 7, 1950 in Neosho, MO to Lucius P. Watkins and Emma Ellen (Levi) Watkins-Schutz. He had lived in Galena, but had been a resident of Columbus, KS for over 20 years.
You could always find JP tinkering with something, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. Despite a lifelong disability, he found work both mowing lawns throughout the community and also as a night watchman for a museum in Pittsburg.
He is survived by three sisters Grace Sargent of Joplin, MO, Wanda Strong of Kansas, Sherry Anderson of Oklahoma; one brother, Robert Anderson of Kansas; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Emma Ann "Toy" Shoemaker; and three infant siblings.
Mr. Watkins has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery of Galena, KS at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 16, 2024.
