(From Houser-Millard Funeral Directors)Oral Laverne Jones, 109, of Jefferson City, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024.
She was born on December 12, 1914 in Fairview, Missouri, daughter of the late James and Hattie (Wallace) Seamster.
Oral was a 1932 graduate from Wichita East High School in Wichita, Kansas. After being a homemaker most of her life she went to work for Intercollegiate Press, where she would eventually retire. She enjoyed reading mysteries, baking, shopping, taking trips, playing bingo, attending the children’s sporting events, helping at church, and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan. Most of all, Oral enjoyed time spent with family, especially the grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Mylar) Becker; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Jones; son, Larry Jones; brothers, Welsby, Carl, Jack, Jay, and Bill Seamster; sisters, Jewel and Juanita Seamster; granddaughter, Kathy Jones; son-in-law, James E. Becker; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Jones.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, February 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St Joseph Cathedral in Jefferson City. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will take place at the Resurrection Mausoleum immediately following. Father Stephen Jones will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to Mid Missouri Hospice, St. Joseph Cathedral, or The Alzheimer’s Foundation.
