Bessie Summerfield

Bessie Mae Summerfield, age 84, of Eucha, Oklahoma went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, in Tulsa OK with her family by her side. She was born at her family home in Rocky Ford, OK to William Bill Stick and Mary Miller Stick on September 22, 1939.

Bessie went to Rydner School on Summerfield Road where she would walk 2 miles to get there. Later they moved where she would attend Walker School on Hwy 28 until the 8th grade.






 

She met Joe Summerfield “Joe Joe” as she called him when she was 15 yrs. Old. They later married at Hillside Baptist Church where they were members, and she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years for the 6-8 age group. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crossword puzzles, attending gospel singings, thrift shopping, yard sales, playing bingo with her family, watching Friday Night Smackdown with her son and she loved speaking her fluent Cherokee language every chance she had, she mostly spoke with her friends Rosie, Betty, Bobbi Sue and Louise on the phone almost daily, those ladies could spend hours on the phone with one another. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Bessie will be dearly missed by her family, church family and friends.

Bessie is preceded in death by her husband Joe Summerfield; parents William Bill Stick and Mary Miller-Stick; sister Ann Marie Tagg; brother Michael Stick and granddaughter Cherissa Summerfield.

She is survived by her children Betsy Ruiz of Jay, OK, Belinda Proctor of Eucha, OK, Bobbie Summerfield of the home, Robert Summerfield and Sandra Sharp of Eucha, OK, Billy and DeeDee Summerfield of Wyndotte, OK, Helen and Randy Page of Jay, OK, Richard and Kristy Summerfield of Grove, OK, Debra and Jose Barcenas of Jay, OK and Stepdaughter Lora and Paul Black of Oklahoma City, OK; Brother Adam and Kathy Stick of Southwest City, MO; Sister Pamela Watermelon of Jay, OK; 13 grandchildren, Nathaniel Summerfield, Bobby Joe Summerfield, Joshua Summerfield, Melinda Page, Stacey Abel, Traci Ayala, Lydia Barcenas, Isaiah Barcenas, Heather Mason, Clint Summerfield, Kelli Summerfield, Nazareth Summerfield and Tiffany Black; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Bessie’s Wake Service will be held on Monday, 6:00pm, February 5, 2024, at her family’s residence in Eucha, OK 74342, followed by Bessie’s family Visitation to greet friends until 8:00pm.








Bessie’s Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, 2:00pm, February 13, 2024, at Hillside Baptist Church, 6814 County Rd 373, Eucha OK 74342 with Pastor Charlie Snell officiating. Followed by her funeral procession to Hillside Cemetery, Eucha, OK.

Bessie’s Burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Eucha, OK.

Arrangements are entrusted to Lawson’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 311 W. Gray St. Jay, OK 74346 with Shaunda J. Lawson, 3rd Generation Owner/Funeral Director and Staff.
