(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)Kenneth David Hutchison, 82, passed away on February 15, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born on November 9, 1941, in Joplin, to the late Herschel and Nancy (Webb) Hutchison.
Kenneth grew up in the close-knit community of Joplin. His career spanned several decades as the grounds supervisor at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, where he began working in 1961.
A man of faith, Kenneth served as a Sunday school teacher, sharing his wisdom and kindness with the younger members of his church. His gentle nature and patient teaching style left a lasting impact on many lives within his congregation.
He was an avid flea market and antiquing enthusiast, always on the lookout for hidden treasures and historical trinkets. His love for these simple pleasures was only matched by his dedication to his community, particularly the widowed neighbors whom he cared for by mowing their yards and running errands. His selfless acts of service were a quiet but powerful example of his generous spirit.
He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Spangler; his niece, Susan Spangler; nephews, Michael and Mark Spangler; and significant other, Wanda Coats. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Hutchison.
A funeral service will be held Monday, February 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri. Burial to follow at Diamond Cemetery. The family invites friends to the mortuary for a time of visitation at 12:00 p.m.
