(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Allen Davis Carpenter, age 83, passed away February 26th, 2024. Allen was born on July 12th, 1940 in Meadville, PA as the third child of Vinson Rex Carpenter and Helen Irene (Peterson) Carpenter of Guys Mills, PA.
Allen attended school in Guys Mills, PA, graduating with the class of 1958. Following graduation, Allen attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK. He joined the U.S. Army serving most of his tour in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1962 and returned to Pennsylvania to attend a trade school in IT.
Always adventurous, Allen left Pennsylvania to head west to Kansas City where he met and married the love of his life, Joyce Ann (Black) Carpenter. They were married on September 1st, 1963 at the First Baptist Church in Webb City, MO. They were married for 60 years.
Allen worked in the financial industry and was both a banker and financial advisor for most of his career. He spent many years as President of the Diamond, MO bank, and as Vice President of the former Financial Federal Savings and Loan in Joplin. His customers became good friends and friends were very important in his life.
Allen was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Joplin and was an active volunteer in both his church and his community. Allen served his God and his fellow man with honor and integrity. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and being in God’s great outdoors.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gertrude Byham. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce, of the home; son Samuel Davis Carpenter of Joplin, MO.; granddaughter Chandler Layne (Carpenter) Wyrick of Seneca, MO.; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Jane Carol Byham and brother Gordon Rex Carpenter of Meadville, PA.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Contributions be made to Christ’s Community Church of Joplin in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory of Joplin, Mo.
