John Newberry

John Newberry, age 92, of Joplin, Missouri passed away Saturday February 24, 2024 at his home with family by his side.

John was born November 23, 1931 in Joplin, Missouri to John Burt and Jessie (Sweetland) Newberry.

He served with the United States Army during the Korean War. John founded Bethel Baptist Church and was a Baptist minister there for over 50 years until he retired. 








He was very proud of his service to his country and was very involved with American Legion Post 13 funeral honors team. John retired as an engineer with Eagle-Picher after 40 years. He loved sports and was a lifelong Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs fan.

John married Mary Rawlinson on November 1, 1949 in Joplin, Missouri and she preceded him in death on February 21, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.








He is survived by one son, Rick Newberry and wife Toni, two granddaughters Chelsea Harmon and husband Derrick, Carmen Newberry, one great grandson Ty Harmon as well as numerous extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 28 from 6 -7 p.m. at Mason Woodard
Mortuary.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday February 29, 2024 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Burial
with military honors will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions are requested to Bethel Baptist Church or American Legion Post 13 and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory Joplin,
Missouri.
