(From Parker Mortuary)Doris Jean Yeakey, age 100 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation. Doris was born on July 21, 1923 in Columbus, Kansas to the late Alvin and Delphia (Sharp) Uttley.
After graduating school, Doris served as a Wave in the U.S. Navy, working as a store keeper, 3rd Class, all during the WWII era. After honorably discharged, Doris married Fred W. Yeakey in Columbus on September 7, 1944, he passed in 1995.
Doris was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Joplin and also recently was blessed into the Catholic faith, a dream she held for many years. Doris was a very talented artist, painting numerous pictures and giving them away to her family.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Carol Walker of Joplin; granddaughters, Tracy Borgmeyer (Brian) of Joplin and Karen Brock (Darrell) of Webb City; great- grandchildren, Alec Eubanks, Lucy Wear, Benjamin Borgmeyer, Aidan and Christian Brock; great-great grandchildren, Michael, Clara, Gianna and Agnus Wear; a sister, Kathleen Sherrill of Diamond.
Graveside services are planned for Friday, March 1, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Saginaw Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
