Dorothy Lowry

Dorothy Pearl Lowry, age 92, passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 12, 2024 at Joplin Gardens, Joplin, MO. She was born November 6, 1931, in Colville, WA to George Alan Brower and Pearl Rachel Bowman. Dorothy married John (Jack) Beck in 1949 who preceded her in 1958 and later married Ray Lowry in 1960 who also preceded her in 2018.

Dorothy graduated from Otis Orchards in 1949 and after a short stay at Midway Island, made her home in Spokane, WA, until she moved her growing family to a farm in Post Falls, ID. In 1978, Dorothy moved her family once again and made Joplin, MO her permanent home.








Dorothy was an accomplished artist continuing until her death. Her paintings hang in the homes of many of her children and grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and never missed a day praying the rosary. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church.

Dorothy is survived by her six children, Kathi Southard, Joplin, MO; Allen Beck (Charlotte), Grove, OK; Denise Grooms (Randy), Redings Mill, MO; Lori Wilder (Billy), Joplin, MO; Cindy Patino (Andy), Joplin, MO; Jennifer Sewell (Steve), Webb City, MO and three sisters, Shirley Olthouse, Helen Kraft (Jim), Midge Stallcop, Washington State.

She is also survived by 16 grandchildren: TJ Southard, Kellie Mintzlaff, Katie Walker, Allan Beck, Eric Beck, Jesse Grooms, Cassidy Claar, Amber Henson, Ashlee Beck, Alexis Givens, Adam Clifton, Ryan Patino, Alicia Patino, Cindy Patino, Zach Sewell and Sarah Sewell. Dorothy was blessed with an abundance of great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren.








The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of the staff at Joplin Gardens and Good Shepherd Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin. Burial will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. A rosary reading will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with a visitation to follow.
