Charlie Smith


Charles (Charlie) Duane Dumas Smith passed from this life peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Seneca, MO at the age of 78 on February 20, 2025 after a battle with renal cell carcinoma and complications. 

Charlie was born on March 23, 1946 in Miami, Oklahoma to Betty Jacobs. He grew up in rural Miami on his grandparents’ farm. Charlie married Connie Leader on December 31, 1965. 








He is survived by his wife, Connie. Charlie is also survived by his children, Deann Woodward (Randy) of Seneca, MO and Bryan Smith (Rachelle) of Joplin, MO; grandchildren, Amanda McCully (Seth), Jake Woodward (Paislee), Riley Smith, and Colton Smith all of Seneca, MO and Taegen Smith and Brylea Smith of Joplin, MO; great-grandchildren, Arissa, Jaxon, and Braxton Woodward, and Alexandra McCully all of Seneca, MO. He is also survived by his sister, Jan Pearce of Tulsa, OK and Walter Dumas of Miami, OK. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Dumas, 2 brothers, Lonnie Dumas and James “Big” Dumas, his grandparents, Lonnie and Etta Jacobs and son Chad Smith.







Charlie worked in the airplane mechanic industry retiring from Premier Turbines. He loved the outdoors. Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and firearms and loved teaching others about these activities. Charlie was loved by many for his wonderful gardening skills and his famous peaches and cream corn. He also enjoyed golfing. Charlie delighted in his grandchildren and spent much of his time cheering on his grandkids and great-grandkids in all their activities. Charlie was a longtime member of Seneca Christian Church.

The body has been taken for cremation. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 2 pm at Seneca Christian Church. A visitation will follow the service.
