(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)Della Francis Prewitt, age 95, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 2:19 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at her home. She was born July 31, 1929, in Oregon County, Missouri, the daughter of John Fraley and Irene Florence (Bryan) Jenkins.
Della was a 1948 graduate of Couch High School in Couch, Missouri, where she was the setter for the high school volleyball team. Della graduated from Mo-Ark Jr. College in 1950 and Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri in 1971.
Della began her teaching career at a one-room schoolhouse in Ring, Arkansas, teaching grades 1 through 8. She was an elementary school teacher for Couch, Missouri, and Mt. Vernon Missouri, where she established the Learning Disabilities program, retiring in 1984. She was chosen as the “Women of the Year,” by the Beta Signa Phi Sorority in 1984, and was an active, faithful member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.
Della enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing and was overly competitive while playing dominoes with a special group of friends. Her feisty and sweet spirit will be remembered by many.
On November 6, 1952, she married Richard Dean Prewitt in Salem, Arkansas. They raised five children in a loving Christian home. Caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was a highlight of her life. Della and Richard were the foundation that established a close and loving family extending several generations. Sunday dinners at her home are a cherished memory of her family. She was never more pleased than to see her family follow the Lord. Della’s memory will continue to bless us with these lessons. Tak care of others, especially our children. Make opportunities to laugh and be silly. Pray fervently. Be thankful for God’s blessings. Take every opportunity to tell others how much you love them and are proud of them.
Della is survived by her husband of 72 years, Richard; two daughters, Mona Ingle and her husband, Jim, of Monett, Missouri and Rena Reckewey of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sons, Patrick Prewitt and his wife, Jayne, of Mt.
