Dennis Hoagland

(From Parker Mortuary)

Dennis Reed Hoagland, age 75, of Joplin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 with his family by his side.

Dennis was born January 12, 1950, in Joplin, to the late union of Martin and Hazel (Lindsey) Hoagland. He married Nancy Lu Johnson in 1968 and together they were blessed with two children, Reed and Heather. Together they shared 52 years of marriage before Nancy’s passing on July 3, 2020.

Dennis worked as a set-up operator on the hub line at FAG Bearing from 1973 until retiring in 2012. He spent many hours volunteering with his wife at Meals on Wheels and Crosslines. He hardly said no to anything and always found a way to help others in need. He enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Kansas City Chiefs, and stock car racing. He loved gardening his tomatoes and hot peppers, mowing, tending to his chickens and being outdoors. Dennis was the biggest supporter of his two grandsons, Ethan and Andrew, and always made sure he was able to attend their football games. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dennis was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Hoagland.

Dennis is survived by his two children, Reed Hoagland and wife, Brandie, and Heather Howard and husband, Robert; five grandchildren, Nathan Hoagland, Robbie Howard, Ethan Hoagland, Christopher Hoagland and Andrew Hoagland; one great-granddaughter, Sapphyra; and three siblings, Kenny Hoagland and wife, Nancy, Marta Petty and husband, Stanley, and Terry Hoagland and wife, Amy.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made out to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the mortuary.

The family has requested that we hold a visitation for Dennis and Nancy on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Graveside services for Dennis and Nancy will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
