Janice Hood

Janice Arlene Hood, of Rolla, MO, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the age of 89.

She was born on February 7, 1936 in Lewiston, Maine to the late Kenneth Varney and Shirley (Brown) Varney. On January 16, 1956 she married Floyd Lee Hood in Burlington, Vermont. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2014. In addition

to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Lee Hood and one brother, Richard Varney.

Janice was an avid reader. She loved watching sports on TV and she was a loyal Cardinals fan whether they were doing well or not. She was also a fan of Mizzou and Chiefs football. All things in nature gave her great joy-plants, animals and especially, being from New England, fall colors. Collecting stuffed animals and knickknacks for her shelves was a favorite pastime. Janice enjoyed sewing in her younger years. She enjoyed many types of music including classical, soft rock, country (especially older country), Elvis and old standard hymns.

Janice was always looking for a bargain at yard sales and thrift shops.

One of her favorite hobbies was sky watching. She liked to watch the western sky and sunset when the colors were bright.

She liked watching the moon in all its phases, especially when there was a full moon. The eclipse a few years ago gave her great joy to witness.

Janice was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rolla. Janice will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes: her son, Bill Hood of Rolla, MO; and one brother, Douglas Varney and wife, Chris of Underhill, Vermont.

 

A funeral service for Janice A Hood will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the First United Methodist Church in Rolla. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. There will also be a funeral service at 12 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, MO. A visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at the Carl Junction Cemetery in Carl Junction, MO.
